Newsletter December 5, 2011

Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,
As we journey through Advent, this week we will relight the candle of hope and also light the candle for peace. Preparing for Jesus’ coming, we know that He is our hope and our peace. Isaiah 9:6-7 states, "For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon His shoulders; and He is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
This week we have our amazing Book Fair that opens Monday afternoon! There is hot chocolate and baked goods for sale all week long after school. The special “Dads and Donuts” is Thursday morning! On Friday, we have Santa coming for a visit! Our Book Fair supports our school library and it’s a great opportunity to do a little Christmas shopping as well!
This Thursday is Feast of the Immaculate Conception and is a Holy Day of Obligation. As with all Holy Days, you are encouraged to bring your child to the 8:00 am Mass. Your child will not be marked tardy if you bring them to Mass. I look forward to seeing all of you celebrate this beautiful day where we celebrate Mary who was conceived free from Original Sin.
Important Dates:
•December 5-9: The Scholastic Book Fair will be in the school library.
•December 6: The student council will be selling candy canes for 50 cents. All of the proceeds will benefit a local charity.
•December 8: It’s the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Please join us at 8:00 am in the church for Mass.

St. Raphael School was founded when God answered a Daughter of Charity’s prayer. To this day, our mission is consistent with that of our founding Sisters: to educate all children in preschool through eighth grade in mind, body and spirit by imparting the values of Jesus through a rigorous curriculum, devoted faculty and an actively involved parent community.
