Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,

Last week’s rain brought more devastation to our area. Please keep all of those affected by the mudslides, rain, and Thomas Fire in your prayers. The Cordero Family (Colton 3rd grade) lost their home last week in the mudslides. Fortunately, they were rescued by the Coast Guard and are safe. Please keep them close to your hearts in prayer.

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! It’s always nice to have an extended weekend, but I hope and pray that we all take the time to reflect and remember what an influential person Martin Luther King, Jr. was with his message of peace and nonviolence. One of my favorite Dr. King, Jr. quotes is, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” What quote of Dr. King’s inspires you?

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. For the past six years, St. Raphael School has sent “Hearts from Home” to our servicemen and women around the world. We are asking that each St. Raphael School student create at least five Valentine’s Day cards for these special people. They need to be turned in by February1st. As your children are creating these cards, please remember to pray for our servicemen and women! God Bless America!

Our 30th annual auction is right around the corner so get ready to do the salsa for the “Denim, Diamonds and Pearls.” The auction committee has been working diligently to prepare for this event. Please remember to check the auction news in the Tuesday Folder to purchase your tickets as well as make your family donation.   The Golden Ticket is now available! For the past five years, we have sold $25 raffle tickets for a grand prize raffle award of one year’s tuition paid. Tickets are available in the school office -- get yours today! The auction is on Saturday, February 10th at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort. Our school auction is always a fun-filled evening.

Catholic Schools Week is January 28 – February 3. Our schools throughout the United States celebrate the uniqueness of these wonderful institutions. On Tuesday, January 30th, we will have annual Mass at Bishop Diego High School. All of the Catholic school students in Santa Barbara will celebrate Mass with many of our priests from our local parishes. We look forward to this wonderful opportunity and are so blessed to have this special school community gathering.

A Prayer for Catholic School Children and Teachers

God of life and love,

Open my heart and mind to the abundance of Your blessings.

Open my eyes to Your presence among us.

Open my ears to the sound of Your voice.

Open my hands so I can serve others.

Open my mind to learning and knowledge.

Open my imagination so I can grow in wisdom and joy.

Open my heart so I can grow in faith.

Help me to respond to the gift of Your love. Amen.

St. Raphael, Pray for Us!

Mission Statement

SR_Emblem-150hSt. Raphael School was founded when God answered a Daughter of Charity’s prayer.  To this day, our mission is consistent with that of our founding Sisters: to educate all children in preschool through eighth grade in mind, body and spirit by imparting the values of Jesus through a rigorous curriculum, devoted faculty and an actively involved parent community.
