Dear St. Raphael School Families and Friends,
Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day! It’s always nice to have an extended weekend, but I hope and pray that we all take the time to reflect and remember what an influential person Martin Luther King, Jr. was with his message of peace and nonviolence. One of my favorite Dr. King, Jr. quotes is, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” What quote of Dr. King’s inspires you?
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. For the past seven years, St. Raphael School has sent “Hearts from Home” to our servicemen and women around the world. We are asking that each St. Raphael School student create at least five Valentine’s Day cards for these special people. As your children are creating these cards, please remember to pray for our servicemen and women! God Bless America!
Our annual auction is right around the corner so get ready for “A Night in Santa Barbara.” We are excited for the new venue, The Santa Barbara Historical Museum. The auction committee has been working diligently to prepare for this event. Please remember to check the auction news in the Tuesday Folder to purchase your tickets as well as make your family donation.
Catholic Schools Week is January 27 – February 2. Our schools throughout the United States celebrate the uniqueness of these wonderful institutions. On Tuesday, January 29th, we will have our annual Mass at Bishop Diego High School. All of the Catholic school students in Santa Barbara will celebrate Mass with many of our priests from our local parishes. We look forward to this wonderful opportunity and are so blessed to have this special school community gathering.

A Prayer for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Lord God, You led your chosen people from slavery in Egypt to the freedom of the Promised Land. We ask you to lead us, this Notre Dame community, from any enslavement to hatred, ignorance, fear, racism, injustice or anything else that prevents us from being the community of love and respect that you want us to be. We remember with gratitude today the witness of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and we ask that we have the courage and determination to follow his example in battling injustice and living the Gospel of love. Help us, Lord, to make ever more the community you want us to be. Grant all this through Christ our Lord, Amen.
